Etz Chayim

Etz Chayim is a congregation of The Victorian Union for Progressive Judaism located in Bentleigh. The synagogue community has existed for nearly sixty years. Since 1965, services have been held in the congregations current location.

KSDesigns’ Mike Levi under its former name Scifi Hifi completed an upgrade to the congregation’s audio system in two stages. The system now operates so transparently that it is difficult to sense that one is listening to a speaker system at all during services.

A Martin miniature line array was chosen for its small visual impact and high intelligibility to provide the backbone of the Etz Chayim audio system. Only four line array enclosures were needed to provide sound for all the seats in front of the Bima (stage area). Seats on the side of the Bima listen to two small single point source loudspeakers.

Two high quality condenser microphones are fitted at the reader’s desk and the Ark where Rabbis and service participants conduct the service from.

A digital processor controls the audio signal once it leaves a very simple rack mount mixing unit. The system operates seamlessly and without adjustment during services.
