Erasmus School

Erasmus School in Hawthorn is a small and very nurturing primary school. Central to the school’s ethos is the combining of many philosophical sources and embracing the arts.

As part of the arts programme students present a drama performance to their community in the school hall annually. It is in this hall that KSDesigns’ Mike Levi has helped the schools’ principals to build over time, and with a modest budget, the formidable audio and lighting systems that the school enjoys today.

Three self powered Meyer speakers are the main speakers in the Erasmus school hall. These single point source speakers provide clear audio reproduction from a very small foot-print. Additional rear fill speakers supply sound to the rear of the hall whilst remaining fairly discreet in appearance.

An analogue mixing console provides mixing facilities in a simple format that encourages students to become involved in audio production. In fact Erasmus has produced students that have gone on to study live production at a tertiary level.

System processing is performed digitally providing the more complex workings of the audio system a secure environment.

Playback of any media type is facilitated along with a selection of microphones for live performances.

A custom made work station houses all the audio, video and lighting control equipment.

The lighting system at Erasmus school has been gradually brought into the 21st century. Some of the lighting systems’ fittings could be considered antique, but in more recent times they have been joined by new LED lights.

A new dimmer rack was recently married to a computer based lighting system which is fully programmable. This system allows entire shows to be programmed scene by scene facilitating very professional lighting presentations.

KSDesigns’ Nic Booth oversaw the development of the lighting system for the school and looks forward to the next stage of the system’s evolution.
